Many think that Lake Como is a good stop for a couple of nights and then they should move on but they are mistaken. 2-3 days are not enough to explore Lake Como and its surroundings! Lake Como is the perfect location for a longer stay – even a week or more – in Northern Italy

However, for most itineraries, 2 days in Lake Como is a sufficient amount of time. You can also take a day trip to Lake Como from Milan, but I personally recommend staying in the region if possible. The lake is beautiful to see overnight.

Lake Como is a must-visit to add to your bucket list if you love the mountains. Located in northern Italy's Lombardy region, the majestic Bergamo Alps surround the lake. Cloaked in green in summer and white in winter, these peaks provide beautiful scenery all throughout the year.

Is Bellagio worth visiting? Bellagio is arguably the prettiest town on Lake Como, and while it's a little touristy, it's definitely worth a visit. The colourful houses against the turquoise lake make for a stunning view.

4 full days is OK, but I would be inclined to stretch it to 5 or 6 if possible. There's Bellagio, Menaggio, Lecce, Como town, a round trip Varenna-Menaggio-Lugano (bus from Menaggio)-Como-Varenna, Lenno, Villa Carlotta....... Sorry about that, should be Lecco not Lecce.

If you're going to be anywhere near Lake Como, I highly recommend adding it to your itinerary. We only had 24 hours to spend in Bellagio, but if you have a bit more time, I recommend spending about 2-3 days so you can relax and really enjoy it.

Although camping is very popular and Lake Como offers some of the most beautiful locations, I wouldn't recommend traveling with a camper unless you are an expert driver. There are often tight corners and one car lanes where you may have to back up to let the oncoming car pass.
