Do Verstappen and Perez get along?
"Checo and I, we get on really well. For us, I don't think there is any rivalry. "Of course, as a driver on track you always try to be first or faster, but we have a lot of respect for each other and we appreciate each other's performances."
"Perez qualified seventh for the sprint race, but the gap to Max Verstappen is relatively big at half a second,” Red Bull's Motorsport Advisor told Sky Sports Germany. “However, if you get to the individual sectors, the difference is marginal. Half a tenth here, a tenth there.
But time, experience and reflection has allowed Verstappen the chance to change perspective and offer an apology to his fellow race-winner. “I had to say sorry,” the Dutchman said on Sky Sports F1. “I mean, it was chaos that first lap, even afterwards, like the whole lap to be honest was a bit tricky out there.”
Lando Norris and Max Verstappen are very close friends. At least, that is the general assumption in the paddock. The pair - both have a Belgian mother - regularly go out together, for example with their mutual buddy Martin Garrix (a DJ).
Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen fought fierce battles in the past and were at each other's throats especially in karting. In 2022, however, the two suddenly seem like good friends, but the question is how long will that last?
According to journalists well connected to Verstappen's camp, the Dutch driver was said to believe that Perez intentionally crashed at the end of qualifying at that year's Monaco Grand Prix in order to line up ahead of him for the race that followed. Perez went on to win in Monaco, while Verstappen finished third.
Max Verstappen has broken an “unwritten rule” by not showing up the Formula One drivers' end of season dinner in Abu Dhabi. The new tradition is supposed to see all 20 drivers come together following the conclusion of the campaign to celebrate over dinner and drinks.
Verstappen kept his lead while the stewards investigated the incident, and the Red Bull driver was soon handed a five-second penalty for pushing another driver off the track.
Verstappen was given a five-second penalty for forcing Charles Leclerc off the track in taking the lead at the start, while Russell was given the same punishment for causing a collision with Verstappen later on in the race.
The FIA has issued Red Bull Formula 1 advisor Helmut Marko with a written warning following his discriminatory remarks about Sergio Perez. Following the Italian Grand Prix in which Perez finished second to team-mate Max Verstappen, Marko suggested the Mexican driver's inconsistent form was due to his ethnicity.
Who are the best friends F1 drivers?
There have been plenty of close team-mate partnerships in the past, the strongest example in recent years coming at McLaren with Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz. The pair brought a freshness and sense of fun to McLaren as the team enjoyed an upturn in fortunes on-track, establishing a true friendship.
Lambiase, of Italian descent but born and raised in London, is the calm, measured voice heard over the team radio talking with Verstappen during Grand Prix weekends.
"I get on really well with Lando because he is just himself and normal,” said Verstappen. “He is my best friend on the grid. "He loves what he is doing.
Verstappen's Take on His Relationship with Hamilton
When asked about Hamilton, Verstappen was quick to emphasise that they do not have a difficult relationship. The two-time champion explained: “I don't think we have a difficult relationship at all. It's just that with others you have a closer relationship.
Charles is good friends with Alpine's Pierre Gasly, so they are quite often together.
Later in the race, with Perez ahead of Verstappen, Red Bull race controllers ordered Checo to let his teammate through. At the time, he called the move "very unfair" on the team radio, and after the race, he was heard saying, "I am happy for the team, but we need to speak later."
The Mexican's contract runs until the end of 2024, but in a recent interview with Spanish rights-holder DAZN he has give the firmest hint yet that he won't renew his Red Bull deal at all costs, perhaps coming to the realisation that Red Bull's car design will continue to evolve around his team-mate.
"There was a clear breach of regulations"; Ferrari have protested against Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen exit from the pit lane, claiming they failed to stay to the right of the yellow line; Perez won the race, Verstappen finished third.
Here's how all 19 full-time drivers stack up this season in order of salary: Max Verstappen (Red Bull, ninth F1 season), $55 million. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes, 17th F1 season), $35 million. Charles Leclerc (Ferrari, sixth F1 season), $24 million.
Max Verstappen was initially incensed about a time penalty, but has admitted his punishment was probably merited. The Dutch driver was given a five-second time penalty for a first-lap incident while racing Charles Leclerc into Turn 1.
What is Verstappen being investigated for?
The Q1 session triggered a plethora of FIA investigations, Verstappen included as he, Fernando Alonso and George Russell were picked up by the stewards for potentially impeding in the pit lane. All three were later cleared though, meaning Verstappen will start the Mexican Grand Prix from P3.
Time penalties of 5 or 10 seconds are added to a driver's overall race time for minor infringements like forcing another driver off the track. They are applied post-race by the stewards. The time penalties are designed to minimally impact a driver's result while still imposing a punishment.
The FIA's rule-makers had a lot of work to do after qualifying for the Mexican Grand Prix: seven drivers had to explain themselves. But the FIA showed understanding.
For the incident with Logan Sargeant, Verstappen gets no penalty at all. Verstappen revealed to the stewards that he was surrounded by all sorts of other cars and any move could have meant a potential crash. He did, however, leave enough space on the outside for Sargeant to pass him.
Latest. Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine duo Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly have been hit with two-place grid penalties for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix following impeding incidents in the pit lane during qualifying.
