Salem High School
Salem is known for its rich maritime history, as being the birthplace of the National Guard, and for the infamous Witchcraft Trials of 1692. Salem is also a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly city located on the coast north of Boston. Salem High School is an accredited four-year public high school, grades 9–12, that empowers all students with the knowledge and skills to access college and career opportunities that will allow them to excel and contribute to society. We offer Advanced Placement, Honors, and College Preparatory classes—as well as Chapter 74 and Career Technical Education that provide authentic learning experiences in Automotive Technology, Electrical, Building and Property Maintenance, Culinary Arts, Early Education and Care, Medical Assisting, and Woodworking Technology.
Many Pathways
Students have the ability to choose their own path based on their interests and needs. Three Pathways, STEM, CTE, and Humanities, guide students in learning that is relevant to their lives now and the ones they imagine for their future. This enables us to teach the whole student and grow the strengths they need into adulthood.
Our rich program offerings also include Project Lead the Way, JROTC, Seal of Biliteracy, World Languages, Fine and Performing Arts, and Project Adventure. Community-based learning experiences include Early College, Dual-Enrollment, Coops, and Internships.
Special Education
We also have the support needed for those who may need assistance to learn in different ways. Salem High School’s Special Education leverages a menu of services to support the learning of students with disabilities. Our ESL department moves English language learners through levels of proficiency via the Newcomer, Beginner, and Intermediate classes. By employing Standards-Based and Social-Emotional Learning Practices grounded in a district-wide commitment to equity, every student at SHS is held to the same rigorous learning targets based on state/national standards, and every student at SHS will receive the support they need to demonstrate proficiency (learning) in those standards

Land Acknowledgment:
The land we recognize today as Salem is Naumkeag, or fishing place, where generations of Indigenous Peoples lived and passed through for centuries. From the village upon the Naumkeag River (now known as the North River) to Sachem Nanepashemet’s fortification (now known as Castle Hill), the people of Naumkeag farmed, fished, traded, raised families, discovered, invented, created art, and above all else, honored the lands upon which you stand today. We acknowledge that this is Indigenous land and acknowledge the Massachusett tribe who continue to honor and hold this land into the present.
