Davis, Sr., and Frances Phillips Davis, Don moved with his family when he was eight years old to Miami Beach. He graduated from Lawrenceville Preparatory School in Lawrenceville, NJ, in 1948. He attended the University of Virginia and graduated from the University of Miami. He later received his Master's Degree in Sociology from Emory University.
