Rewinding Oregon State’s 11-6 win over UC Irvine in Corvallis Regional final (2024)

Oregon State hit three homers and five pitchers combined to throw a four-hitter as the Beavers beat UC Irvine 11-6 Monday to win the Corvallis Regional.

The No. 15 seeded Beavers (45-14) advance to Super Regionals, where they’ll face No. 2 Kentucky in a best-of-three series in Lexington, Kentucky. Schedule and game times will be announced later.

NINTH INNING

Holmes relieves Keljo, while Krieg takes over for Guerra at first. Hadeen grounded out to short. Smith grounded out to third. Kendle flies out, and Oregon State wins the regional.

McDowell, who has three hits in the game, leads off with a walk. Turley struck out. McDowell caught leaning toward second, and he’s picked off. Macias goes the opposite way and hits a solo homer to left. Oregon State 11-6. Kasper grounds out. (1 run, 1 hit, 0 errors, 0 left).

EIGHTH INNING

Bermudez flies out to short right. McCaffrey reaches on throwing error by Bazzana. A wild pitch advances McCaffrey to second. Call strikes out. Beavers are four outs away from the regional title. Oyama struck out. (0 runs, 0 hits, 1 error, 1 left)

Tibbett, still in the game, strikes out Hainline to lead off the eighth. Guerra makes it 10-6 Oregon State when he crushes a deep shot over the left field fence. Trosky strikes out. Bazzana grounds out to second. (1 run, 1 hit, 0 errors, 0 left)

SEVENTH INNING

Keljo relieves Hutcheson. He starts the inning by striking out Smith. Kendle, working Keljo for nine pitches, lines a single to left. Martinez flies out to left. Gleed flies out to center. (0 runs, 1 hit, 0 errors, 1 left)

Weber leads off OSU’s sixth with a solid single to left. Beavers outhitting Irvine 11-3. Hainline flies out to the warning track in center. Guerra walks, runners at first and second. Bermudez makes a leaping catch to deny Trosky a base hit. Bazzana works the count to get a walk and load the bases. McDowell singles to deep short, Weber scores. 9-6 Oregon State. Turley lines a ball up the middle that ticks off the glove of Tibbett. Ball is gobbled up by Bermudez, who throws out Turley to end the inning. (1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 3 left)

FIFTH INNING

It’s the Anteaters turn at the plate. Kendle flies out to right. Martinez struck out. Lattery has thrown 1 2/3 innings of hitless relief. So much for that. Gleed tees off on a hanger and hits a solo homer to left, well over the fence. It is Gleed’s second homer of the game. Irvine pulls to within 8-6. Bermudez is hit by a pitch. Count 1-1 to McCaffrey when Dorman visits the mound. Lattery has an injury, and he’s leaving. AJ Hutcheson comes out of the pen. McCaffrey flies out to right. (1 run, 1 hit, 0 errors, 1 left)

UC Irvine going with its ace, Nick Pinto, who pitched Friday. Hainline leads off with a double to left center. Hainline is 2 for 2 in the game, with a homer Sunday night. Guerra raps a single to left field, and it scores Hainline. Trosky strikes out. Bazzana smacks a liner over the second baseman’s head and into right field for a base hit. Runners at first and second. McDowell dumps a single into right center to load the bases. It’s the fourth hit of the inning off the Anteaters ace. Turley strikes out. Huge out for Pinto.
