Winning Tickets Worth $600 or Less

All Maryland Lottery retailers are authorized to redeem winning tickets with a value up to and including $600.

Winning Tickets Worth More Than $600

To claim a winning ticket with a value larger than $600, you must present proof of your Social Security number or Federal Tax ID number and a photo ID to prove that you are at least 18 years old. Your name must match exactly on both documents in order to process your claim.

Acceptable forms of photo ID are:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Valid military ID
  • Valid government-issued ID
  • Valid passport

Acceptable proof of SSN/Tax ID are:

  • Original signed Social Security card
  • Health insurance card containing your name and your entire social security number
  • W-2 form or a pay stub issued by the claimant’s employer
  • 1099 form issued by a bank or other financial institution

Winning Tickets Worth $5,000 or Less

Winning tickets with a value up to and including $5,000 may be redeemed at anyExpanded Cashing Authority Program (XCAP) retailer, unless directed to claim at Lottery headquarters. ID and proof of social security number are required for any prize larger than $600.

XCAP retailers cannot cash prizes over $600 for non-resident and resident aliens (tax ID begins with “9”).

Casinos cannot cash prizes over $600 for non-resident and resident aliens (tax ID begins with “9”). Please note that you must be at least 21 years of age to enter a Maryland casino. Winning tickets of any amount may be claimed at the Maryland Lottery headquarters located at 1800 Washington Boulevard in Baltimore and will be paid by check. If the ticket is valued at more than $25,000, it must be claimed at the Maryland Lottery headquarters. All claims at the Washington Boulevard location are by appointment only—no walk-ins.Schedule your claim appointment here.

The Maryland Lottery headquarters pays prizes valued up to $25,000, less offsets and obligations, by check on the day of the claim. The Maryland Lottery headquarters does not pay any prizes in cash. For prizes valued at more than $25,000, please allow at least 30 business days for the claim to be processed and paid.

Winning Subscription Tickets

My Lottery Rewards Prizes

All cash and noncash prizes won in second-chance promotions and Points for Drawings must be claimed at Maryland Lottery headquarters. Winners are contacted by the Lottery and must schedule an appointment and follow the same procedures listed above to claim their prize.

Tax Information

For prizes larger than $5,000, the Lottery is required to withhold the following taxes:

  • 24.0% federal tax
  • 8.75% state tax for Maryland residents
  • 8% state tax for non-Maryland residents

Prizes of $601 to $5,000 are taxable and must be reported when winners file their tax returns. The amount of tax on prizes in this range varies depending on the winner’s circ*mstances.
